"Old Can Be Magnificent"

"Around since 1857, many hotels can be quaint but a bit long in the tooth. Not the historic Cary House. Beautiful. Charming. Historic. Warm. Inviting. Well located.
Located on the main street of Placerville, this 157 year old hotel is a gold mine! The lobby is inviting filled with wonderful artifacts collected through the history of the hotel. Not overcrowded or clutters. just right and interesting. The manager at the desk was warm and personable. We checked-in and were provided with a free parking pass for the lot behind the hotel. Our party of four were given the Pinot Noir room and the Zinfandel room. Both were roomy, warm, comfortable and cozy. Very quiet. It felt like we had stepped back 150 years but with a private bathroom and up to date amenities. The four poster bed queen in the Pinot Noir room was comfortable and had 6 pillows. 2 Victorian style chairs and table made for a lovely place to rest and have a cup of tea. The next morning we spend time at breakfast and exploring the town. The manager said that if we needed more time in the town, it would be no problem checking-out later than the usual 11:00 am. Upon leaving, we were provided with a gracious, "Thank you and Happy New Year."
This is the THE place to stay in the Placerville area. A great value for the money."
