"Historic Hotel Downtown"

"I am a sucker for old hotels and this is a great old hotel. Its a small place with only something like 40 rooms so don't expect a lot of amenities or room service. Also, being a historic hotel expect quirky lobbies, elevators and rooms.

Cary House is located on the main street with dozens of worthwhile restaurants in walking distance along with lots of shopping and historic stuff. Great little town.

There is plenty of free parking in the parking lot along the side alley. I really liked the historic lobby. Wander around a bit as there is a little souvenir shop and coffee area in the back. The elevator is a trip. A tiny little thing that dates back to the 1920's with a sliding gate and manual door. Room enough for two people or one with luggage. I love it and would not change a thing.

The room was comfortable and well maintained. Our room was larger than you find in many old hotels. Slept well with no interruptions.

On the second floor, there is a balcony available to all of the guests. It turned out to be a great place to sit with a bottle of wine that we had purchased at one of the local wineries."

"2 Day Get Away"

"Neat little town. Actually I was really shocked. Super artsy nice little ma pa restaurants. Couple of breweries. Race track near by. Tons of wine tasting placing. Just a great small town. Closest thinking I can compare it to since I'm from Tx. It's a small Austin. Really normal town fun atmosphere and really hip.

"One Night Stay in Placerville"

"Nice historic hotel. Loved the lobby with the stained glass. My fourth floor room was very quiet and clean. The woman who was working the front desk was very helpful and accommodating. Great location for walking around the cute downtown area."

"Staff were extremely helpful and accommodating"

"I was chaperoning my son's class rafting trip on the American River and needed to login to a work conference one day. I spent the night here so I could get up early and be online. The wireless wasn't quite good enough in my room to transmit a webcam so the staff went out of the way to help me make it work. They allowed me to login with a hardline in one of the common rooms and my talk went off without a hitch. They also let me check out a bit late so I could finish the meeting. I really appreciated their flexibility and help."

"Very Memorable Experience"

"Historic beauty, ambiance, warmth, charm, comfort are only a few of the words I would use to describe this wonderful, old hotel right in the heart of main street Placerville. On a whim, my fiancé and I decided to get married on Christmas Day and found the lobby next to the tree and underneath one of the gorgeous stained glass windows to be the perfect setting to exchange vows. The staff was incredibly nice (thank you, Chester) and we had such a warm reception to the idea and the event which only involved 5 people and a bottle of sparkling wine. We only had time to spend on night but are looking forward to returning. Our room, the Madeira, was furnished for the time and was like stepping into my grandmother's house without the musty smells. The bed was heaven, our garden view room had windows we could actually open. Aside from sleeping too late that morning and missing most of the hot water for a shower - it was still pleasantly warm and a 100 plus year old hotel for goodness sake! - the stay was beyond perfect. I could have spent one entire day looking at everything in the lobby alone. It was like a home with museum quality art and furniture. Fun time, great staff, great little town. Thank you Cary House Hotel for making our wedding so memorable. I am highly recommending your hotel to all of my friends and anyone else who will listen!!"
