"Historic beauty, ambiance, warmth, charm, comfort are only a few of the
words I would use to describe this wonderful, old hotel right in the
heart of main street Placerville. On a whim, my fiancé and I decided to
get married on Christmas Day and found the lobby next to the tree and
underneath one of the gorgeous stained glass windows to be the perfect
setting to exchange vows. The staff was incredibly nice (thank you,
Chester) and we had such a warm reception to the idea and the event
which only involved 5 people and a bottle of sparkling wine. We only had
time to spend on night but are looking forward to returning. Our room,
the Madeira, was furnished for the time and was like stepping into my
grandmother's house without the musty smells. The bed was heaven, our
garden view room had windows we could actually open. Aside from sleeping
too late that morning and missing most of the hot water for a shower -
it was still pleasantly warm and a 100 plus year old hotel for goodness
sake! - the stay was beyond perfect. I could have spent one entire day
looking at everything in the lobby alone. It was like a home with museum
quality art and furniture. Fun time, great staff, great little town.
Thank you Cary House Hotel for making our wedding so memorable. I am
highly recommending your hotel to all of my friends and anyone else who
will listen!!"

"Old Can Be Magnificent"
"Around since 1857, many hotels can be quaint but a bit long in the
tooth. Not the historic Cary House. Beautiful. Charming. Historic. Warm.
Inviting. Well located.

Located on the main street of Placerville,
this 157 year old hotel is a gold mine! The lobby is inviting filled
with wonderful artifacts collected through the history of the hotel. Not
overcrowded or clutters. just right and interesting. The manager at the
desk was warm and personable. We checked-in and were provided with a
free parking pass for the lot behind the hotel. Our party of four were
given the Pinot Noir room and the Zinfandel room. Both were roomy, warm,
comfortable and cozy. Very quiet. It felt like we had stepped back 150
years but with a private bathroom and up to date amenities. The four
poster bed queen in the Pinot Noir room was comfortable and had 6
pillows. 2 Victorian style chairs and table made for a lovely place to
rest and have a cup of tea. The next morning we spend time at breakfast
and exploring the town. The manager said that if we needed more time in
the town, it would be no problem checking-out later than the usual 11:00
am. Upon leaving, we were provided with a gracious, "Thank you and
Happy New Year."
This is the THE place to stay in the Placerville area. A great value for the money."
